Lone Defender by Shirlee McCoy

Synopsis

When private investigator Skylar Grady finds herself abandoned in the Arizona desert, she knows two things. First, her "simple": case tracking a deadbeat dad has someone spooked. Second - the someone will kill to keep her off the trail. So even when her rescuer, former patrol agent Jonas Sampson, wants her to leave, Skylar knows she's staying. No one gets rid of her that easily. If Jonas wants her safe, then he'll have to stick by her side. But her new partner is a mystery, too - one Skylar will risk her heart to solve.

Review

I enjoyed everything about this book! Strong lead female character, strong male hero mixed in with loads of suspense and action. The storyline was quite unique and riveting.

From the word go Lone defender throws you into suspense and intrigue as first Skylar and then Jonas battle to overcome natural and man made odds that would stagger lesser beings.  This rollercoaster of adrenaline and emotion was worth every moment of reading as their love story emerged.

As much as this is a thriller it is in essence a love story! A love story that delivers every happy moment and cherished feeling a good love story should. This is one of my particular favourite happy endings.

The Surgeon's Secret Baby by Ann Christopher

Lia Taylor needs Thomas Bradshaw like she’s never needed anyone before. The hunky, super–ambitious Head of Surgery at Hopewell General is the only one who can save her young son. Falling for the seductive surgeon is a prescription for trouble. But there’s no cure for her smitten condition once Thomas brands her with his sensual touch.
The scion of a powerful family, Thomas has vowed to devote his life to healing others. Having an affair with the alluring computer wiz and single mother could cost the workaholic doc his career at the prominent, scandal–plagued Virginia hospital. Especially if his explosive secret gets out. But Thomas can’t give Lia up. His diagnosis? A future together filled with all the love their hearts can hold…

The Surgeon's Secret Baby is one of those rare Harlequin novels that manages to take a well used concept which as we all know is a trademark of this genre, and turn it into something fresh and unique. I was swept away by the connection of Thomas to the son he never knew existed. The journey they undertake in getting to know each other is sweet and heart warming.

The Surgeon's Secret Baby is a sweet romance and I truly enjoyed watching love evolve their characters. As with all books in this genre the read was short and sweet and the characters overcame their obstacles. I expected nothing less and I was rewarded with a truly pleasant read.
